2008 was a great year for Penguins hockey. The year began with the memorable Winter Classic. In the first outdoor regular season NHL game played in the United States, Sidney Crosby scored in a shootout to win the game for the Penguins. The team went on to win the Atlantic division title, their first division title in 10 years. They then became Eastern Conference Champions, dispatching of the Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers with relative ease. They played in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1992. It was one of the most memorable years in Penguins history.
Over the next few days, as the results of our survey come in, we will examine the Best of 2008.
However, today we will look at an in depth statistical breakdown of the year that was.

What can we learn from these numbers? Well, first of all, the Penguins only lost ten home games in regulation in 2008. Unfortunately five of those ten losses have taken place in the last month.
The Penguins longest home losing streak also took place this month, and it may carry on into the new year. The Mellon Arena, which was once a very friendly building for the Penguins, is no longer doing the team any favours.
Still, the Penguins 2008 campaign was a very successful one, but what went in like a lion has definitely gone out like a lamb. The Penguins opened the year with a five game winning streak and ended it with two straight losses.
Over the next few days we will be revealing the results of the Best of 2008 Survey as we continue our wrap up of 2008.
Happy New Year from Penguins Experience!
