The Pittsburgh Penguins have revealed their "new" third jersey for the 2008-2009 season.
It's very similar to the jerseys from the Winter Classic, if not identical. The good folks at Icethetics have posted a gallery, as have the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I thought the Pens might make some changes (like the Sabres did) in order to increase sales, but they've left things pretty much the same and I like it. It's a great retro look for them and it showcases the team's pre-Lemieux history a bit, something that is rarely done by the Pens. Often times it seems like the franchise was founded in 1984 and, despite everything that Mario did for the team, I like the fact that the Penguins seem to be connecting to their most distant history.

I really hope that the rumours of the team leaving the black and gold behind permanently aren't true however. Black and gold are Pittsburgh colours and they should stay that way. Leave the blue for special occasions.

And, one day, I hope they wear the old "
Cup Jerseys " at least one more time.
