NHL News From Around The League - Nov. 4th, 2008

Buffalo's Ryan Miller recorded his second straight shutout last night as the Sabres defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-0. Miller made 24 saves in Jersey. On Saturday he made 29 saves to shut out the Washington Capitals. Miller leads all NHL goalies with a goals against average of 1.62 and is second in the league in save percentage at .942.

Washington's Alexander Semin was named the NHL's first star for the month of October. Semin had 16 points in nine games in October. He also isn't a fan of Sidney Crosby. Hendrick Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators were the second and third stars. Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin, who tied Semin in scoring in October, did not make the list.

The Chicago Blackhawks lit up the Colorado Avalanche last night, 6-2. The Blackhawks have no won three straight. Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd each had two goals and an assist. It was current Blackhawks coach and former Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville's first game against his old team.

Indecisive free agent Mats Sundin will meet with the Anaheim Ducks sometime this week. Both sides are showing interest, but the Ducks would need to find a way to fit Sundin under the salary cap.

Team Canada will
need to find a new logo for the 2010 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee does not allow teams to wear logos on their uniforms at the Olympics and the Canadian Olympic Committee will not seek an exemption to allow them to do so. The IOC began warning countries two years ago of this rule.

For those in the United States, today is election day. Regardless of your political leanings it's important that everyone gets out and votes. Don't pull a Canada and have the lowest voter turnout in history this year.
