The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled their third jersey yesterday. Like many other teams in the league this year the Flyers have chosen a retro look. Those orange jerseys will bring back a lot of angry feelings for Pens fans and give us yet another reason to hate the Flyers.
Speaking of teams that Penguins fans dislike, the Detroit Red Wings have placed right winger Darren McCarty on waivers. They hope to send McCarty to Grand Rapids of the AHL in order to clear up some cap space. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland made quite a cryptic comment stating that "the move was necessary to create some roster flexibility with the salary cap in case there's a short-term injury to a goalie." Is Ty Conklin or Chris Osgood injured?
A couple of goalies provided amazing performances in defeat last night:
Colorado Avalance goaltender Peter Budaj made 47 saves as the Avalanche fell 4-1 to the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price's 46 save performance was for naught as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Eastern Conference All-Star team 2-1.
On the other side of the spectrum, the Edmonton Oilers only managed 19 shots but still managed to defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets by a huge margin, winning the game 7-2.
The Tampa Bay Penguins Lightning did their best Penguins impersonation last night, blowing a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 to the Florida Panthers. It was new coach Rick Tocchet's second game behind the bench, and his second loss.
