It wasn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but the Pens record is now 1-0-0.
There were numerous things wrong for the team however.
- Team toughness. Maybe the losses of Laraque, Ruutu, Roberts and Malone did hurt them afterall, because the team was - in the words of Michel Therrien - "soff." Talbot brought some energy but Cooke and Godard seemed to do nothing (expect for the bad penalty Godard took.) And where was Bissonnette?
- Fleury. He was shaky. I'm not saying he had a bad game, but it wasn't good.
- The powerplay. It was horrendous. Malkin on the point was something I liked, but it didn't work out very well today. They really missed Gonchar out there, more than I thought they would.
- The new guys. Satan and Fedotenko seemed to just frustrate Crosby today. They need to gel much, much better than they did today.
Overall, it was nice to get a win, but the Senators shouldn't have been such a challenge. The Kennedy/Malkin/Staal line was good and Talbot played an awesome game.
The rematch is tomorrow when the Pens are the "home" team.
